Hear For The Holidays Giveaway – Meet Our Dartmouth Winner

02/16/2022 | Local News, Patient Resources, Patient Stories

During November, we announced our competition, Hear for the Holidays, which gave three special people the opportunity of a lifetime.

Local people in Fall River, Hyannis, and Dartmouth were able to access a pair of free hearing aids, as well as access to expert audiological care.

All you had to do was fill out a simple form on our website explaining why you think your loved one should win.

After reading through all the heartfelt nominations, we finally found a winner, and we’re so excited for you to read his story.

The winner of our 2021 Hear for the Holidays giveaway in our Dartmouth location is…Tom McAfee.

The Winner, Tom McAfee:

Nominated by his wife, Tom has suffered with a hearing loss for over 45 years and was eventually told by the Coast Guard that he couldn’t rejoin due to hearing loss.

While his wife’s hearing loss became a bigger issue than his, Tom sacrificed his own need for others. However, he could only ignore hearing loss for so long before it became a real problem.

As we know, the side effects of hearing loss put you at a high risk of developing dementia and depression, so it was essential Tom received the treatment he needed.

Thanks to Dr. Duncan, Mrs. McAfee’s life has been greatly improved by hearing aids, so she wanted to give back to her husband after all these years and change his life for the better.

Tom’s wife said, “My life has greatly improved due to hearing aids, thanks to Dr. Duncan and the devotion of Nancy Duncan and her great staff.”

Mrs. McAfee was the one who had nominated Tom for Hear for the Holidays. We were so moved by his story that we had no hesitation when it came to deciding the winner.

Tom was awarded with a new set of hearing devices, a whole year of care with Duncan Hearing Healthcare, and a box of Black Tie gourmet cookies.

On another note, we’d like to say thanks to everyone who took part in Hear for the Holidays.

It truly was a privilege, and I am so lucky to be able to do what I do and change people’s lives for the better.

We wish Tom all the best with his new hearing devices!

Do you know somebody that needs to see this? Why not share it?
