New York is known for its delis, and now we have an authentic one right in our own neighborhood

Love Local: A Little Slice of New York Right in Our Own Backyard

08/11/2022 | Local News, Love Local, Patient Resources

It’s important to support local businesses because they are the backbone of any community.  When shopping locally, you are supporting that local business owner who is responsible for supporting their employees and their families within that community.

We love to explore new businesses and meet the people who run them. We consider ourselves a local business, so we know all the trials and tribulations one can face.

When a business finds success and contributes to the community, we want to shine a light on them and show appreciation for their hard work. Places like this give our neighborhoods the character that makes them so enjoyable to live in.

The local business I want to talk about today is called The Pickled Deli. The name says it all, and once you’ve tried them, just hearing the name will start to give you cravings like I am having right now.

They have amazing deli sandwiches, daily specials, and fantastic desserts. I haven’t ever gotten anything from them that I didn’t like.

What Makes Them So Special

Most delis can be a pretty stale experience that more closely mimics grocery shopping, but not this place.

They have a great ambiance that stays true to their deli roots but is still warm and inviting.

Their unique options are very creative, and they are not afraid to switch things up now and then either. With daily specials constantly rotating, I’ve never been bored with their menu at any point throughout my four years of visiting them.

Sandwiches

My fav is the Reuben or anything on their harvest cranberry bread. The meat is very tasty and piled high, so I never leave hungry.

Another stand-out on the menu is the Monte Cristo. Sometimes this sandwich can be a little too much bread, but at Pickled Deli, the meat-to-bread ratio is perfect.

It’s still substantial but stays together nicely and is easy to eat.

It wouldn’t be a deli without delicious pickles, and these sandwiches are made that much better with them. Make sure you get a few to take home because they make their pickles from scratch; you can’t find these in any store.

Desserts

The dessert menu may be the most underrated aspect of this restaurant. They have an ever-changing menu to ensure each confection is as fresh as possible.

If you get a chance, try one of the cupcakes they feature made by FattyCakes; the peanut butter and jelly cupcakes are my favorite.

You also can’t go wrong with the cinnamon bun. On a cold day, I recommend pairing this with a hot cup of coffee, and you’ll have no cause for complaints anymore.

You must stop there whenever you are in the Somerset area; you won’t regret it.

Where to Find Them

They are located right in the heart of Somerset, so it’s easily accessible from all over town. Have a look at the menu on their Facebook page to see which dish will be your go-to from now on.

I don’t know anyone who has only visited them one time. Once you’ve tried them, you’ll be back for seconds and thirds.

When you can, check out this New York-style deli and thank them for doing a great job and contributing to our already vibrant community.

Do you know somebody that needs to see this? Why not share it?
