Why Are More Younger People Having Their Hearing Tested?

06/06/2024 | Hearing Aids, Patient Resources

It’s a new movement we’ve seen recently at Duncan Hearing Healthcare – more and more young people coming to see us in search of hearing healthcare, getting their hearing tested and, where necessary, getting themselves hearing aids and protective earplugs and earmolds, too.

With noise exposure increasing, the perks of hearing protection and hearing care have become more important than ever. We’re glad to see more young people taking charge of their hearing health.

If you’re reading this and wondering if getting your hearing tested could help you tackle some hearing loss challenges you’ve noticed recently, don’t knock it ‘til you try it, right?

What Are the Benefits of Getting My Hearing Tested?

By getting your hearing tested, you’ll be able to get a handle on your current range of hearing and see what could help you strengthen it further.

Even with just one hearing assessment, you can achieve a baseline for what your current hearing levels are, and in future hearing tests, you can base your most recent results off of your first results.

Our comprehensive hearing assessments take up to an hour to complete but go very in-depth to understand any potential causes of hearing loss, whether it be genetic, age related, noise exposure, or even a buildup of earwax.

With a variety of tests to help best understand your hearing loss challenges, we’ll work with you to understand any family history of hearing loss, what medications you may be taking, and learn more about you and your lifestyle. It’s important to us to get to know you before we navigate what you might need out of your hearing care.

Of course, we understand that nobody’s jumping to go get their first hearing test done. Hearing care and hearing aids have long been associated with negative stigmas to do with aging – when you think of hearing aids, who do you think of wearing them? Your grandparents, great-grandparents?

The image of that clunky, awkward hearing aid buzzing behind your grandpa’s ear is now a thing of the past. Advanced hearing aid technology has come so far since that old device; some models today are entirely invisible, inserted deep in the ear canal so they’re out of sight, out of mind.

More young people are recognizing that stigma is outdated and taking care of their hearing sooner, rather than later – why not join them?
