What Is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of a sound with no external sound source. Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn’t a sign of something serious. It can affect people very differently.

Some people live with it for many years and are unbothered by it. Some people find after many years of living with their tinnitus unbothered, one day it intensifies and they need help in managing it. Others immediately need help.

Tinnitus Quick Facts

I’m Experiencing Tinnitus, Now What?

The first step in the management process is scheduling a tinnitus consultation and assessment appointment with one of our certified audiologists.

During the consultation, the Audiologist will perform specialized testing to assess your hearing mechanism to look for possible causes of tinnitus. The pitch, loudness, and maskability of your tinnitus perception will be assessed. You will complete a lengthy set of questionnaires to help us determine the possible root cause/causes of your tinnitus perception which will help guide your specific and unique tinnitus management plan.

The tinnitus consultation and assessment consists of two appointments scheduled approximately 3 weeks apart. The first appointment is scheduled for approximately 90 minutes and the second appointment is scheduled for approximately 45 minutes and can be conducted in person or via telehealth.
