Widex Unique: Is It Time to Upgrade Your Hearing Aid?

12/24/2022 | Hearing Aids

2015 was a year of significant events. The world watched in awe as same-sex marriage became legal across the United States. Sadly, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks shook Paris, leaving the global community in mourning. And in a momentous scientific achievement, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft completed its flyby of Pluto, giving us our first close-up images of the distant dwarf planet.

Amidst these world-changing events, Widex introduced its groundbreaking hearing aid, the Widex Unique. Although this device is no longer available for purchase, many individuals continue to rely on the Unique for their daily hearing needs. At Duncan Hearing Healthcare, we’re often asked about servicing and supporting these devices, and we’re happy to assist all hearing aid wearers, regardless of their device’s brand or age.

What Was Special About the Widex Unique?

The Widex Unique made waves in the audiology world with its innovative features and sleek design. This discreet device packed a punch when it came to improving users’ hearing experiences.

One of the Unique’s standout features was its Sound Class Technology. This sophisticated system automatically adjusted to the user’s environment, providing a more natural and comfortable listening experience. Imagine walking from a quiet room into a bustling café – the Unique would seamlessly adapt, ensuring clear hearing without missing a beat. While revolutionary at the time, today’s hearing aids offer even more advanced environmental adaptation, with some able to recognize and adjust to hundreds of unique sound situations.

For those struggling with tinnitus, the Unique offered a helping hand through its Widex Zen Tinnitus Management feature. This innovative approach generated soothing sounds to help manage tinnitus symptoms, improving quality of life for many users. Modern tinnitus management systems have built upon this foundation, offering more personalized and effective relief options.

The Unique was available in various models, including behind-the-ear (BTE), receiver-in-canal (RIC), and in-the-ear (ITE) styles. This variety allowed for a perfect fit for each individual’s hearing needs and lifestyle preferences. Widex understood that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to hearing aids.

Compatibility with the Widex BEYOND app allowed users to adjust their hearing aid settings right from their smartphones. This level of control and convenience was a game-changer for many patients. Today’s hearing aids have taken this concept even further, offering more intuitive interfaces and advanced features like real-time language translation.

The Unique also came equipped with a wind noise reduction feature, significantly improving sound quality in outdoor environments. This meant users could enjoy outdoor activities without the frustration of wind interference.

Are You a Widex Unique Wearer?

If you’re still using the Widex Unique, it’s worth noting that while it was cutting-edge in 2015, hearing aid technology has advanced significantly since then.
