Widex Beyond: Is It Time to Upgrade Your Hearing Aid?

03/19/2021 | Hearing Aids

In 2017, the world witnessed several significant events. Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States, sparking widespread discussions about the future of American politics. Sadly, a devastating terror attack at the Manchester Arena in the UK shocked the world, leaving many hearts heavy. On a brighter note, scientists announced the discovery of seven Earth-sized planets orbiting a nearby star, igniting excitement about potential alien life.

Amidst these global happenings, Widex introduced its groundbreaking Beyond hearing aid. Although no longer in production, many users still rely on this innovative device for their daily hearing needs.

What Was Special About the Widex Beyond?

The Widex Beyond was a sleek, behind-the-ear device that packed a punch in terms of technology and user experience. Its standout feature was the proprietary Sound Class technology, which automatically adjusted settings based on the user’s environment. Imagine stepping from a quiet office into a noisy street – the Beyond would seamlessly adapt, ensuring optimal hearing in any situation. While impressive at the time, today’s hearing aids offer even more advanced environmental adaptation, with some able to recognize and adjust for hundreds of distinct sound scenarios.

Connectivity was another key aspect of the Beyond. Compatible with the Widex BEYOND app, users could control their hearing aids directly from their smartphones. This feature allowed for discreet adjustments and personalized settings for different environments. Today, however, we see even more sophisticated connectivity options, with some newer models offering hands-free calling and direct audio streaming from a wider range of devices.

The Beyond wasn’t just about amplifying sound; it aimed to enhance overall quality of life. It featured the “Zen” function, generating soothing tones to alleviate tinnitus symptoms, and included “Mind Games” for cognitive training. These innovative features showcased how hearing aids could contribute to broader health and wellbeing.

Durability was a key consideration in the Beyond’s design. It boasted water-resistant technology and a nanotech shield to protect against moisture and wax. With a battery life of up to 10 days, it was built to keep up with active lifestyles.

The “True-Input” technology in the Beyond provided a more natural and accurate sound experience, handling a wider range of input levels than its predecessors. This technology aimed to deliver a listening experience that closely mimicked natural hearing.
